- DUI – driving under the influence
- DWI – driving while intoxicated
Driving under the influence, or driving while intoxicated is the act driving a motor vehicle with blood alcohol levels in excess of a specified limit. In the United States, a person is considered legally intoxicated when their BAC (blood alcohol content) is above 0.08. A person under the age of 21 can be arrested if there is any amount of traceable alcohol in their BAC (blood alcohol content). DUI’s can be punished by fines, license suspension, and/or jail time depending on the circumstances and jurisdiction.
If you have been arrested, you have several options, but a good starting point would be to contact a DUI lawyer. There is some protection for any DUI suspect or those accused of a DUI under the United States Constitution and some state laws. Therefore it is in you’re best interest to contact a qualified DUI attorney who can help guide you through the process, pointing out any unlawful violations during the arrest, or else helping in obtaining a reduced sentence.
